St. James Town June 2013
58-12 Design Lab was invited to participate in the OP-CITY Conference co-hosted by the University of Toronto Daniel's Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design and UCLA's cityLAB. The conference was intended to unpack new forms of urban representation and we conducted a research project in St. James Town, a neighborhood in Toronto whose marginalized communities have often been overlooked despite its central location and rich history. We collaborated with Toronto artist Steven Beckly to produce a richly textured "live model" of the neighborhood, drawing original documentation, recycled film and image, digitally constructed urban designs, and sound into a live mixed video of the neighborhood and its future possibilities.
